September 2020, the City of Brussels will participate in the international 'I love my market' campaign, which puts the markets in the spotlight. On the markets that take place every week in the City, numerous events and activities will be organized.
Every year, around the world, this international campaign aims to promote markets and their dynamism. This is a good opportunity to remember that the market favors short distribution channels, but is also a place of conviviality and a creator of social ties and employment.
Last year in Belgium, more than 40 markets participated in the Love your local market campaign. This year in Brussels, the ending takes place on Thursday, October 8 with the Market of Markets at the de Brouckere Square. For one day, the famous square changes scenery to accommodate thirty vendors from the 15 markets of the city: artisans, antique dealers, producers, or even clothing sellers. All will come to offer their products and represent their market!
During the last 15 days of May and throughout the duration of the "Love your local market" campaign, the City organizes various activities and activities in your markets: concerts, creative workshops, raffles and many more. These help to revitalize the different neighborhoods of the city, but also to promote certain values, such as the importance of eating locally, the fight against food waste, or support for family farming. These activities are often organized in partnership with local associations.
